SLA CEO Night – 03 November 2014

The Association closed the Year 2014 with representatives and CEOs of members congregating at a social CEO Night on 03 November 2014 at Orchard Parade Hotel.

Graced by Mr Tan Kai Hoe – Chief Executive of SPRING Singapore, over 130 CEOs from member-companies, Council Members of SAAA@Singapore and guests were present.

In his Welcome Address, Mr Stanley Lim – Chairmanurgedmembers to take a longer term view and explore ways to move up the value chain with the impending ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, an initiative which aims for regional economic integration, by transforming the ASEAN region into an area with free movement of goods, services, investment, skilled labour and freer capital flow.He also encouraged younger logisticians to rise up to the call and join the SLA Council to help shoulder the numerous developments in the pipeline. He cited the success of several projects under the Local Enterprise& Association Development Programme, or LEAD in short, supported by SPRING Singapore and IE Singapore where members can benefit much.One upcoming project is on resource sharing, and he seek the ardent support of members to work together on acollaborative basis to make an impact, and stay committed to the betterment of the logistics industry.


Posthumous Award&Tribute to the Late Chairman Mr Quek Keng Liang

The nightalso paid tribute to the late Chairman, Mr Quek Keng Liang who departed on 29 July 2014. Joining the guests wereMrs Doris Quek, the beloved wife of Mr Quek, her nephew – Mr Eugene Low and his wife MrsEivien Low, as well as her niece - Ms Cherly Low to share thetouching moment.Avideo tribute was specially produced, showing highlights of his leadership, as well as moments of his accomplishments and contributions to the industry.  It was especially meaningful to many in the crowd who knew the late Mr Quek personally. When the video was played, some were visibly moved. 

Fondly remembered as exemplary leaderwho remained steadfast and passionate to the main purpose till the end.

He steered shared vision, set clear directions and did whatever it took to stay the course, all in quiet confidence.

He was peaceable and embraced life with humility, integrity, fairness and genuine respect.

Above all, he was a real gentleman, our chief, our co-laborer and a much trusted friend whom we dearly miss.


A posthumous award was presented in loving memory of the late Chairman to MrsQuek. All guests received a special edition of the tribute in print. 


Long-Service Award for Ms Ng Soo Hwa

Ms Ng Soo Hwa – Executive Director, who has dedicated 25 years of her work life to the Singapore Logistics Association,received her25-Year Long-Service Award from the Chairman, Mr Stanley Lim and Honorary Secretary, Mr Gerry Tan. Ms Ng joined the association on 1 July 1989 then as a Manager.  She was tasked to set up the secretariat to manage the association with just over 90 membersand help put together a few early training programmes.

Ms Ng has led the SLA secretariat since then.  She is also one of the three directors of The Logistics Academy, a certified Private Education Institute incorporated in 2010 under the aegis of the association.  Over the years, her unyielding commitment and devotion to the charter of SLA, with close to 530 members today, is commendable.
